Jaifal / Nutmeg

Nutmeg is the seed or ground spice of several species of the genus Myristica. Myristica fragrans is a dark-leaved evergreen tree cultivated for two spices derived from its fruit: nutmeg, from its seed, and mace, from the seed covering. It is also a commercial source of an essential oil and nutmeg butter.

Nutmeg or jaiphal has strong antibacterial properties and helps boost the immune system. It's said to be rich in dietary fibre and thus keeps the digestive system super-healthy. With a nutty flavour in it, jaiphal is known to be rich in antioxidants and is said to have anti-inflammatory properties as well.

A pinch of this exotic spice powder is used in baking, curries, sweets, beverages like tea and mulled wine. Jaiphal is valued as a potent aphrodisiac, digestive stimulant, essential oil easing the pain associated with headaches and treats common cold, cough and asthma.
